Located in Carvoeiro, Algar Seco, just 12.5 km, 20 minutes by car from Armação de Pera, is considered one of the best viewpoints in Portugal. It features impressive rock formations and is another great example of Mother Nature's impressive work.
The caves of the natural monument, Algar Seco are located in Carvoeiro, Algarve. This true wonder of nature consists of a series of rocks and caves carved over hundreds of years by the sea and wind, with natural pools of incredibly blue water. The holes in the rocks give them the appearance of windows and balconies.
It is in Algar Seco that the famous rock formation known as “Boneca” is found. It is an inverted cone-shaped rock that looks a bit like a doll when viewed from the sea. Ten steps down is the entrance to one of the famous Algar Seco tunnels. The view from the inside is absolutely spectacular and will help you understand why Algar Seco is one of the most beautiful natural areas on the planet.
The pedestrian bridge, known as the Carvoeiro boardwalk, is built on top of the Algar Seco cliffs, providing a breathtaking view over the Atlantic Ocean and some of the most exotic beaches in Europe. We strongly recommend that you take the opportunity to cross the boardwalk, as you cannot help but be inspired by this surrounding beauty.
To get to Algar Seco you have to cross the Estrada de Algar Seco. Then it is necessary to walk, on foot, through a kind of labyrinth with 134 steps of reddish rocks. These steps are the combined work of nature and man.
You can also get to Algar Seco by boat or alternatively you can find some excellent kayak tours.
