In the Algarve you will find some of the best beaches in Europe, if not the world. Praia de Armação de Pêra is a popular beach due to its extensive sand. However, there are many more beaches to discover in the region, such as Praia da Rocha, Praia da Marinha and Praia do Camilo.
The main beach, Praia Grande, is an extensive beach of fine sand, supported by the main avenue of the city. Access is easy – no steps, although parking can be difficult in high season. As Armação de Pera still has an active fisherman population, you can often see fishermen mending their nets along the beach.
From Armação beach you can look west towards the coves and caves of Senhora da Rocha and Porches. The landscape is beautiful – red cliffs topped by green stone pines, sloping towards the blue seas and golden sands.
To the east the beach extends towards Salgados, Galé and Albufeira. The eastern stretch of Praia Grande is famous among nature lovers, particularly bird watchers. Here development is more sparse and low, as the area enjoys a protected status. In winter the area is a favorite resting place for migratory birds, particularly Flamingos.
