Visit Our Lady of the Rock

Located 3.6 km, 10 minutes by car, you will find A Nossa Senhora da Rocha. One of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the Algarve, where the orange cliffs contrast with the turquoise blue and green tones of the ocean.

Nossa Senhora da Rocha was originally a fishing port and therefore bathers share it with boats, fishing equipment and huts where fishermen keep their things. Fishing boats also take tourists on boat trips (paid) to visit the caves in the area, where you can admire the fascinating play of lights and colors, and to isolated beaches that can only be accessed from the sea. The beach is bounded on the east by the high cliff line, where several sinkholes cut into the rock are visible, and on the west by the long promontory of Nossa Senhora da Rocha, from where you can see the coast to Albufeira.

A tunnel dug under the headland allows access to the neighboring beach, Praia Nova. The beach is surrounded by abundant vegetation, including juniper, olive trees and wild mastic trees. Many plants typical of these saline environments can be seen growing on the cliff face, along with numerous birds that take refuge here: hawks, black-headed gulls, herring gulls and swifts.

Note: Given the risk of landslides and loose stones falling on the beach, it is advisable to keep a safe distance from the cliffs.

Road access is via a paved road from the EN 125, turning south at Porches or from Armação de Pera, and following the signs to Nossa Senhora da Rocha. There is plenty of organized parking next to the Nossa Senhora da Rocha headland and informal parking areas along the road leading to the beach. Traffic and parking are restricted by the beach. Support infrastructures include a restaurant, toilet, information and leisure center, and there are lifeguards on duty during the summer holidays. This is an accessible beach. Orientation: Southeast.
